The Facebook conversation that ensued from my post yesterday… (The picture isn’t at all representative of our friendly debate. I just thought it was funny.)

Ryan: It’s illegal because we say it is. The fact that many Americans choose to ignore the democratic process and do what they want anyway doesn’t exactly make me want to listen to what they have to say.

Why Isn’t Marijuana Legal?

Can someone explain this to me? Chemically created stand-ins for marijuana are legal (or at least have been legal) even though they cause “numerous health problems” but pot, which is derived from nature, is illegal?

To be fair, I’ve never smoked marijuana. I have no interest in smoking marijuana. But from my outsider perspective and based on conversations with many friends that do smoke pot, I really don’t see how marijuana is any more dangerous than cigarettes or alcohol. Hell, energy drinks frighten me much more than weed does. Continue reading
